Landscapes of Tharaka Nithi

Wakesho was bent over a newspaper engrossed in her reading. Nzinga ran over to see what was so interesting, in a big bold headline it read, THARAKA NITHI THE HUB OF EDUCATION. 

“Our county is the hub of education?” Nzinga asked. 

Wakesho looked up and answered, “can you believe it, apparently it is famous for its educational institutions.” 

“Chuka girls’ high school, Chogoria girls’ high school, Ikuu boys’ high school and of course the Chuka University.” Wakesho continued. 

“Wow, so cool!” Nzinga exclaimed. 

“Oh, and don’t forget the Clive Irvine College, where the finest nurses in Kenya come from,” Nzinga said with lots of panache and pride. 

“That’s right!” Wakesho said laughingly as she added that her cousin graduated from there. 

“Ok but besides our stellar education, do you know about the Inanduru Bat cave?” Nzinga asked. 

“Yikes, that sounds like something from a bad horror movie,” Wakesho said. 

Nzinga continues to tell Wakesho about a fun, spooky, but exciting experience at the bat cave. Just then a crow jumps out and flies cawing and causing the girls to jump in fright. 

“I prefer bird watching, camping and mountain climbing right in our home county Tharaka Nithi, not scary, just peaceful, and always in awe,” Wakesho said. 

“Oooh and don’t forget that the Chogoria base is a favourite for hikers of Mt Kenya on the eastern side.” Nzinga added. 

“This is a very interesting article, I think we should take it to class for discussion,” Wakesho says as they walked back to class.
