Did you know that Lamu county hosted the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kenya? What about the fact that it has been continuously inhabited for over 700 years? And that it covers the last 130 kilometers of the Kenyan coastline? That is just the tip of the iceberg! Lamu County attained “Heritage Site” status in 2001 but had its first settlers in the 14th century. Just as it was then, Lamu retains its unchanged pace today.
