Nairobi’s first major roads were the historic Avenues. Carefully drawn up to define the town’s borders, they delineated the boundaries of Nairobi settlement in 1899. The Nairobi Police Station was one of the first known locations of the central business district before and after Nairobi was declared a city in 1950, dealing with any crimes and injustices in the major metropolis. The road in front of it was used by delegates who were on their way to Government House. For this exploration of the streets of Nairobi on the original outer edge of Nairobi, we are on Tenth Avenue.

King’s Way as it was then called – which gives meaning to the placement of Kingsway House and Kingsway Tyres, don’t you agree?

Today this bustling, six-lane highway is University Way.
