In 1904, Ewart Grogan and his wife Getrude arrived in the new city named Nairobi. He immediately attached himself to the political administration and development of Nairobi, buying and selling land during the First World War. Among the buildings he established during his time in Kenya were, Grogan’s Castle’ which was a large house on a hill overlooking the Taita Taveta area and the house Chiromo on Mans Estate in present day Westlands Area. His efforts in ensuring the new capital developed were praised by naming this road after him.

Kijabe street stretched all the way to Kirinyaga Road during Grogan’s time in Nairobi and this street was then called Grogan Road.
