In 1903, The British East Africa Protectorate had 31,983 Indian workers who had been imported from India to assist with the railway construction. In the same year Alibhai Mulla Jeevanjee supported the construction of the Indian bazaar. Many Indians set up dukas and small shops on the western end of Victoria Street. The road was named Bazaar Street but if you’re passing the CBD today, it’s known as Biashara Street and as the name suggests, it’s a business street with shops and a few restaurants from the junction with Koinange Street where it begins to its tail end on Moi Avenue.
