In 1906, Nairobi’s first mosque was constructed on Portal Street. In 1933 an upgraded iconic architectural masterpiece was designed and constructed through the combined efforts of the Asian community and local Muslims. Jamia mosque is still one of the mosques found within the central business location and right beside it is McMillan Memorial Library. As for Portal Street, these days, we refer to it as Banda Street
