Over the past three decades, there has been a significant increase in terrorist attacks globally. Here, at home, it has resulted in moments of distress, anxiety and even anger. But Ythera is here to remind us of these ordeals and encourage us altogether.
The song is titled “Like a Phoenix, Let’s All Rise” reflecting on the attacks – from the US Embassy attack in 1998, to the Westgate attack in 2013, the Garissa University attack in 2015 and the most recent Dusit attack early this year. It is safe to say that, as a nation, we have endured the worst and continue to pick the scattered fragments of peace within our borders.
Ythera sings over a piano tune. Her voice is mellow and the melody can only induce melancholy but as you listen to the words of encouragement, hope is bound to take over your mood. She encourages us to ‘shine again’, ‘conquer evils’ and ‘remain strong and be vigilant’. The song also beckons us as Kenyans to travel around our vast country, looking out for each other because at the end of the day, togetherness is what’s important. When Ythera reminds us that we are unshakable, her voice truly makes you believe the truth in the statement.
The video for the song is a series of photos of patriotism – starting with a snapshot of the Kenyan flag, shots of KDF officers and the Nairobi skyline. All accurate depictions of unity. This is destined to be one of our most memorable patriotic songs for years to come.
