Victory Musuviwa on Looking For Home by Christine Wairimu Ng’ang’a
Wairimu’s book is quite literally one of the most amazing pieces of literature I’ve ever had the privilege of reading. The three chapters, ‘Self-awareness’, ‘self-worth’ and ‘self-love’ take you through a personal journey within yourself. They guide you through the process of discovering who you really are, what you love about yourself and what to avoid tolerating from people around you. In them she gives examples from her own personal experiences. An added advantage was that there are questions that trigger deep thoughts on how we often take life for granted.
It’s not every day you find a book that resonates with you on a deep level. But when you do, it’s a gem. Something you’ll keep forever. That’s what this book is to me. As someone growing up in the society that is what it is today, Wairimu’s book is one to read as it paves a way for us to shy away from peer pressure – a common struggle present today. At the end of the book, Wairimu’s last words are, ‘I write for myself. I write for the ones who may not know how to write for themselves giving them a voice and praying that in my words they will find their voice too.’ Don’t you want to read it now?
