Delamere Avenue was named in 1932 and before then, 6th Avenue in 1929 when it was first tarmacked. The colonial government commemorated Lord Delamere’s contribution to the development of the colony by naming one of the major roads in the business district after him.
When independence finally arrived, Mzee Jomo renamed this road after his family name.
