Did you know that Nyeri was the headquarters of the former Central Province for decades? Even today, the county remains at the center of our country’s notable movements. Have you heard of Blessed Nyaatha? She was an Italian missionary who came to Kenya in 1915 to join the Consolata Missionaries. As a nurse, she tended to the Carrier Corps during the First World War before returning to Kenya where she taught religion and tended to the sick. Blessed Nyaatha passed on in 1930 and was beatified 85 years later.
