This street was non existent during the pre independence period but when a newly independent Kenya’s capital expanded, there was need for more roads. Argwings Kodhek was the first African who qualified as a lawyer, a Kenyan who was instrumental in many legislative processes in the 1950s that challenged racism in Kenya. He put in place structures that laid the path towards independence.

His legacy was honored by the first Kenyan government through naming one of Nairobi’s major roads after him. The road presently runs from Ralph Bunche Road in Upperhill area and ends in Valley Arcade area.
