Moi Avenue

By 1902, Government Road was flanked by Indian Dukas. It was initially given the name Station Road as it was the main road that led to the Railway Station before it’s name change following the development of government offices on either side of the street. Government Road was among the places that flooded most during heavy downpour and a frustrated Colonel John Ainsworth began planting blue gum trees to prevent the continuous flooding that had become quite common. The road’s route began at The Norfolk Hotel.

The roads name remained as it was until Daniel Arap Moi became the second president of Kenya and named the street Moi Avenue
